FAQs

We live in the Bath area and there are many local stone supply companies, why should I choose yours?

The selection and supply of stone for areas around pools is specialist and demanding. It is important that stone is selected with a high slip resistance, even when wet. SPS only provide stone for pool related use.

What guarantee do we have regarding the slip resistance of stone?

We commissioned an independent report to establish this, which confirmed the suitability of this stone. Copies of the report are available on request.

Our pool is to have level deck water, with the water on a level with the floor. I have seen unattractive plastic grilles, but understand that yours can be in stone

Sofikitis Stone and Marble are based approximately one hour north of Athens and offer stone overspill grilles which blend with the appearance of the surrounding floor and look stunning – have a look at the gallery pictures on this site.

With your stone grille system, how is the water channel underneath cleaned?

The stone grilles are removable so the channel can be regularly pressure washed.

What assurance of long term durability do you give?

We offer a ten year guarantee against deterioration of stone through natural causes. Care must be taken, however, as with all stone flooring products, to maintain satisfactory levels of pH and chlorine within the pool water and we can provide more details on request.

We are having a pre-made spa close to our new indoor pool. What stone detail do you recommend?

We recommend that the spa is raised approximately 375mm and combined within a timber supporting plinth. This can be clad in stone, extending beneath the top lip of the spa to enable its occasional accessing for servicing or repair.

How is your stone delivered?

Stone is delivered to clients’ site packed on pallets and wrapped. On request, the delivery lorry can be supplied, fitted with a Hyab to enable its unloading. Complete pallets will be left for unpacking by clients’ contractor

Do you offer an extensive range of stone flooring and grilles for pools?

Our standard product is a cream coloured, dense, sandblasted limestone, which has attractive honey coloured veins and we hold stock of this. Different colours and textures of stone are available and samples can be provided on request.

Is your stone suitable for outside use?

We have provided stone copings and grilles for a number of outdoor pools throughout the UK – the stone is frequently used for exterior pools throughout the world, particularly in Greece, which is subject to greater extremes of climate than the UK.

How do you recommend your stone is laid out around my pool?

Our standard size of floor stone is 600mm x 300mm x 20mm. We recommend that it is laid with staggered joints with the longest dimension on a parallel with longer length pool walls.

Our pool will be freeform and will require curved grilles.

The advanced technology available from our Greek supplier enables any shape or size of stone to be cut. This includes curved level deck grilles, copings and outlane.

How is the stone sealed?

We have located a product which we believe to be exceptional. This will seal the stone and maximise time between resealing. The sealant is clear and will not affect the colour of the stone, or can provide an enhanced ‘wet look’. Samples of each can be provided on request.

Have you used your stone for cladding walls and base of a pool?

Absolutely! There has been a trend towards the stone lining of pools in the last 12 months and pictures can be seen in our Gallery. The appearance of the stone floor blending with the pool looks excellent and a stunning pale blue colour of water is achieved.

Can you provide stone for adjacent areas to the pool?

All floor areas, which are potentially wet, are recommended to be laid with sandblasted limestone. Areas which are dry, such as a walkway link, or conservatory can use the same limestone (but not sandblasted) for uniformity of appearance.
