The Deeply Boring Company was incorporated in 2006, to offer geothermal heating for private indoor pools.
Whilst geothermal heating has been used successfully in many other countries, in particular Germany and Sweden, its growth had been relatively slow in the UK.
Jeremy Nabarro had been associated with the design, detailing and project managing of indoor pools for many years and it had been obvious, that not only were indoor pools becoming ever more expensive to operate, but also the location of indoor pools frequently dictated the use of oil – a relatively expensive fuel when compared to gas.
Since 2006, energy costs have risen inexorably to the point where an energy consultant was recently predicting oil would be $200 per barrel within five years!
The Deeply Boring Company’s initial target was to complete six indoor pools in the UK during 2007 and to monitor the results both in terms of capital expenditure and pay back.
We are pleased to report that these installations have been completed and we are presently assessing their performance.
Initial results have exceeded expectations. We have found that approximately 90% of the energy requirement can be met by ground source heat and that savings in running costs, when compared to installations fuelled by oil, are in the order of 75%.
We now have the experience to complete geothermal installations for private indoor pools and should be pleased to discuss further projects with clients.
